Why I Write…

…to give queer women a voice through stories that take readers on an emotional roller coaster but which always lead to a joyful ending.

Who Am I?

In high school, I wrote stories to amuse myself, but after a career focused on factual reports, I yearned to return to fiction. Writing a novel is challenging, yet finishing one is exhilarating; my first book, Falling for Love, took three years to publish. I chose to write for the lesbian community, a niche market, after spending much of my life hiding who I was.

As a former federal imagery analyst, I deployed to Afghanistan and Iraq, experiences that inspired my second novel, Beyond the Checkpoint, where I blended military action, suspense, and romance.

Growing up in a small Illinois town with an alcoholic and abusive father, I faced many challenges, including a lack of support when I came out.

After graduating from Illinois State University, I worked for the Department of Defense before retiring due to health issues. Now living in West Virginia, I enjoy the balance of mountains and nearby cities.

“The story is absorbing, the characters have a depth that means you keep turning the pages, and there’s romance. What more could you want?”
